Grounding and knowledge

A persona's reactions are only as good as what it knows. Kumkuat grounds personas in two ways.

Grounded persona context

Every persona carries a refreshable block of background context generated from its linked public sources: profile pages and posts on LinkedIn, X, Bluesky and Truth Social, articles that quote or are written by the person, and any files you have linked. The context is regenerated on the persona's refresh policy and whenever you press Refresh, so reactions reflect what the person has said recently rather than a static bio.

Knowledge bases

A knowledge base is a set of crawled sources: a newsroom, an RSS feed, a saved search, or a social account. Link a knowledge base to a persona and the most relevant recent passages from it are retrieved into the prompt when that persona reacts. Several personas can share one knowledge base, and one persona can read several. See Knowledge bases for sources and crawl schedules.

Grounding questions

Workspace admins can maintain a catalogue of grounding questions ("What has this person said about our sector in the last quarter?") and propagate them to personas in bulk. Each persona gets its own copy, so local edits survive later syncs, and a question edited on the persona unlinks from the catalogue. Variables such as the company name are filled from the company profile; a question whose variables cannot be resolved is skipped rather than sent half-filled.

What a model provider receives

A prompt assembled on the platform: the persona's profile, the most relevant retrieved excerpts, and the text or question you submitted. The provider returns text. Nothing is sent to a retrieval partner other than the handles and URLs to fetch. Read the data flow page for the full table of what is retrieved, from where, and where it lands.
