Creating a workspace
Welcome to Kumkuat. Your first step is to create a workspace for your company. A workspace holds one company's profile, competitors, audiences, documents and members. Open Add a workspace from the workspace switcher at the bottom of the sidebar, or from Workspace Status if an admin has already started one for you.
The wizard has four steps. Every step is skippable, and anything you skip can be finished later from Workspace Status.
Step 1 · Company & competitors
Enter your company name and click Lookup. Kumkuat fills the website, ticker, industry, sector and description for you; correct anything it got wrong and save.

Under competitors you will see a suggested list. Click to accept the ones you want, use Find Competitors to generate more, or add one manually by name and ticker. Competitors drive the comparison features: their press releases and earnings calls are backloaded alongside yours, and Compare Narratives can set your executives against theirs.

Step 2 · Audiences & themes
Audiences are the personas that react to your content; themes are what Kumkuat tracks in it. You can combine more than one path:
- Import from marketplace (recommended) — start from a curated pack of audiences, themes and tags, then add or remove anything.
- Upload a spreadsheet — bring your own audience list. Only a
namecolumn is required; map as many of the rest as you like (description, category, website, X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Truth Social, other links). Kumkuat guesses the mapping from your headers, shows a preview, and detects rows that already exist so you can reuse them or update them from the sheet. - Generate for me — audiences and themes generated from the company profile using AI.

Themes and tags are switched on by default. Untick anything that does not fit and it is left out of processing without being deleted; you can switch it back on later in settings.
See Choosing your audiences for the trade-offs between the three paths.
Step 3 · Backload
Backload pulls in the documents your audiences will react to: uploads, the press-release feed and earnings-call transcripts for your company and its competitors, going back a number of quarters you choose. Backload runs in the background, so you can continue while it fills.
Step 4 · Features & invites
Choose which features to enable for the workspace and invite your team by email. Roles and permissions are described in Inviting your team.
Workspaces created before the wizard existed were configured from Workspace Settings, which still holds the same company, competitor, transcript, theme and persona controls.
