Themes and signals
Themes are what Kumkuat listens for in your documents. Each theme is a signal template: a name, a description, a category, and (in the advanced view) the prompt that extracts matching statements. Themes group into pillars, which Compare Narratives and the Audience Dashboard use to organise results.

Getting themes into a workspace
- Import from the Marketplace during the workspace wizard, alongside audiences.
- Auto Generate drafts themes from your company documents. Useful to get a feel for the platform; for lasting themes prefer one of the next two.
- Bulk Upload an Excel file. Choose the worksheet, the header row and the columns, and the generation model, and Kumkuat creates the templates.
- Build by hand in the Basic or Advanced window.
Basic and Advanced
Basic creates a theme from a name, description and category, and gets you working in seconds.

Advanced adds the extraction prompt, for company-specific, product-specific or otherwise highly focused themes. Existing templates open in either view with every field filled, and the prompt can be adjusted in the Advanced view.

Testing a template
Both windows let you test a template against documents in your workspace, or against a new file or pasted text, so you can see exactly what it extracts before you save it.

Signal runs
Signals are extracted automatically when documents arrive. Execute workspace signals reruns extraction after you change templates; each run is listed with its status and the signals it produced. Signals feed Compare Narratives, Alerts and the executive and company pages.
