Running a narrative test
Open Narrative Testing under Narratives. The studio remembers your last batch, so a rerun starts pre-filled.
1. Write or choose a brief
A brief tells the analysis what success looks like: the audience you most need to move, the claims you are making, and the reaction you want. Start from a brief template or write your own, and save it if you will reuse it. The brief drives the methodology: report sections, the emphasis of the gap analysis and the kind of evidence sought.
2. Add the narrative
Pick a document from the library, drag and drop a file, or paste text. The picker supports search, so a long library is not a problem.
3. Choose audiences
Use a panel, a category, favourites or a hand-picked set. Focus groups in the studio work best at eight to twelve audiences.
4. Set options
- Report type — the Resonance Report is the default. Custom report types you have saved appear here too.
- Web research — on to supplement closable gaps with fresh, sourced evidence; off to rely on your workspace and knowledge bases only.
- Knowledge base — attach one for the evidence step.
- Compare with previous — when this is a revision, pick the earlier run so the report shows movement audience by audience. Audiences are matched by identity, not by name, so a renamed persona still lines up.
5. Run and read
Watch progress and the ETA; the page updates as Stage A completes and Stage B begins. When the verdict lands, read the gaps, open the evidence-to-deploy cards, and use Chat with focus group to dig into anything surprising. Then export.
Reruns
Re-run prefills everything from the previous run. Change the narrative and rerun to see whether a revision closed the gaps; the compare view is designed for exactly this loop.
